my experience with coaching

I’m gonna be the first one to admit that I was very cynical when I started my schooling and found out that part of the program for my Professional Counselling Diploma was to take part of a 3 month Life Skills Coaching course.

Basically, it was a 3 month life coaching session that incorporated the divine help of 15 strangers that quickly became 15 extended family members - but that’s besides the point.

I was skeptical and yet curious - and like all things at my school, curiosity won. And it won for good reason.

I quickly realized that Life Coaching wasn’t for the faint of heart and it certainly wasn’t the trendy new-age, only encourage the client and never challenge, fluff that I had grown to believe from both the media and the stigmas around the block.

It was raw. It was hopeful. At times it was playful.

It challenged me to vocalize my most vulnerable hopes and dreams for the future and tune my language to create a self-responsible mindset that empowered me to actually believe that those hopes and dreams could be a reality.

Being coached challenged me to live into my goals rather than have the narrative of some day on repeat.

It wasn’t easy and it wasn’t always pretty - and it led me to sitting here, writing this blog. A goal of mine for two years… a goal that took a little push, some playful curiosity and a whole lot of coaching to get here.
